Smurfs - Color me Blue
With the new Smurfs movie coming out this summer. I am reminded of when I was a little kid in the early 1980's and a fan of the cartoon. Anything with Smurfs on it I wanted. Didn't get most of it but we were poor. So anything was good. Whether it was a glass with their image on it or a coloring book. Speaking of coloring book. As you can tell by the title of this post I am a little sad about this item. Before we get to why I'm still this way after all these years. A little back story on me. As a kid I liked to share and I had brothers and sisters. Okay now that we got that out of the way. Around 1982-84 ( I forget what year exactly) I had a Smurfs coloring book. In preparation to color in it we had purchased new Crayola Crayons. I was salivating at the thought of using my blue, white and red crayons. To color inside and outside the lines. To enjoy the pleasure we have as kids to do something as simple as color inside a book. But I had siblings and was the sharing kind. So as you can guess I had let others color in it including my babysitter. Although I had let others go before me that's not the end of the story. There were still more pages to be filled and enjoyed by myself. So I knew my turn will come. A little something else about myself. I am a procrastinator. So I waited for the perfect moment. I didn't wait a long time. I just knew I had time. Wrong. Now we move up the street to our new apartment. Somehow during the moving process the Smurfs coloring book was lost or possibly left behind. I beg for us to go back and find this elusive item to no avail. Now I have this void in my life. There were other coloring books in the future. Other pages to use my crayons. None though remembered by me. Longed by me.
