Pearl Jam’s Binaural Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Binaural on ITunes

On May 16, 2000, Pearl Jam released their 6th studio album Binaural. The album was produced by Tchad Blake. "Known for his use of binaural recording. Binaural recording techniques, which employ two microphones to create a 3-D stereophonic sound." Moving away from Brendan O'Brien, who produced their previous four albums (vs, Vitalogy, No Code, and Yield) at the time. Although Brendan did come back to mix some of the songs. It is Matt Cameron's first album as a full time member of the band.

The singles off Binaural were Nothing as It Seems and Light Years. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Beaten out by Britney Spears. Binaural was the first Pearl Jam album not to reach platinum status by the RIAA. It did reach Gold.

There were songs left off Binaural that appeared on their rarities and b-sides album Lost Dogs. Sad, Hitchhiker, In the Moonlight, Education, Fatal, and Sweet Lew. After hearing these songs, fans wondered why some weren't on the album instead of some that made the cut? Most notably Sad, Fatal, In The Moonlight,  and Education. These songs have been played at their live shows. But are not regulars.

To celebrated the 25th anniversary. Pearl Jam are releasing a DVD audio and Blu-Ray audio versions. As of now the blu-ray is available at the bands website.
